Shopping is for winners
Part of the role of a producer - at least a fringe-theatre producer - is to source props and costumes for the play you're working on. That's one of the jobs I've been doing this week.
I can categorically say that I never expected to have fake blood, a tiara and conical flasks on the same shopping list and yet all three of these items were delivered to my door this week. My toy box, it seems, is ever expanding whilst my budget is ever dwindling.
Speaking of budgets, I've created the mother of all Excel documents to track what I'm spending, who has been paid, what income I've received and what's on order. I'm absolutely thrilled by it because in a previous life I was an Excel whiz and I fell in love with the utter accuracy and black & whiteness of its glorious formulas - something that by necessity is missing from the creative world of writing and scripts. It appears therefore that even in this strange new world I can get my fix.
