In search of a venue - it's not as easy as you'd think
As a new producer one of the first challenges I've faced is finding venues. Well not exactly finding them, I know what I want, it's more tracking people down to ask them!
When I say 'venues' I'm not just thinking the performance space, today I've been trying to find a place to hold auditions, after that I need to find rehearsal space and ultimately I need a performance space.
Now this is Fringe theatre - not a big West End production so I'm working with tight budgets here and challenge one, as I mentioned, is to try and get the audition space for free. Not impossible but by no means easy. There are a handful of suitable places in Manchester and when I finally get through to them I need to put on my biggest smile and appeal to their better nature.
